What is crank failure?

Crank failure can occur due to incorrect installation. Specifically, when a steel spindle is installed into an alloy crank, cross-threading may happen. Cross-threading refers to the creation of a weaker secondary thread in the alloy caused by the steel spindle, which can eventually result in the shearing of threads. This, in turn, can lead to loose or detached pedals.

To avoid this issue during the initial installation, we recommend following these steps:

  1. Apply grease to the spindle thread.

  2. Hand-tighten the spindle completely.

  3. Use a spanner to further tighten the spindle.

It's important to note that warranty coverage for this type of damage applies only if the assembly was performed in-store by our staff. If you have a self-assembled bike from a mail order, the responsibility for proper assembly lies with the purchaser.
